NA Speaker Chairs Meeting of the WPC Working Council

Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly/Patron Women Parliamentarians Caucus chaired meeting of the Working Council of the Caucus in Parliament House, today.
Madam Speaker complimented the Women Parliamentarians for their active role in bringing the women related issues to the limelight. She said that their proactive stance towards the women empowerment had sensitized people and compelled them to think that women were not mere objects but equal partners to the national development.
The Women Parliamentarians Caucus (WPC) expressed its gratitude to Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms for recommending its three recommendations to be a part of 18th Amendment Bill. The WPC was of the view that one of its recommendations regarding “Education for All” would enhance literacy rate in the country specially the womenfolk.
Later, Working Council discussed holding of Women Convention in Islamabad under the auspicious of Women Parliamentarians Caucus which was unanimously agreed upon. It was decided that women parliamentarians from South Asian region, Women MPs from Provincial Assemblies in Pakistan and AJ&K and Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assemblies would be invited to take part in the interactive Women Convention. The Working Council decided to discuss modalities and dates for the Convention in its next meeting.
The Working Council of WPC also discussed establishment of Women Caucus in the provincial as well as AJ&K and Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assemblies in order to take the women MPs on board on women empowerment initiatives.
